De La Rue was a promising prospect and amateur star out of NYC. Adams was your typical tough Philly fighter. In their first fight De La Rue would lose his zero being stopped on cuts. The second fight was a war. By the 10th and final round, De La Rue was up on the cards and 3 mins away from redemption. He had also taken a lot of punishment. A lot of give and take. So after touching gloves with Adams, De La Rue lunged forward…right into a brutal short left hook. De La Rue crashed to the canvas out cold. He would be taken out on a stretcher. This would be his final fight as he nearly died from this knockout. Plus it didn't hurt he let loose some firepower every now and then such as his first fight with Rex Layne. Poor Rex had been battered by Charles as the fight went on and in Round 11 dropped him with a swiftly thrown right cross.
